An interesting fact about UW - Madison

This is a very interesting piece of information about UW that
I think even the people in my Department arent aware of but is a huge
selling point.

Okay can you name the three most important discoveries related to the
electrical engineering world that have recieved Nobel Prizes ? Let
me refresh your memory...
a) Transistor
b) Integrated Circuits
c) Superconductivity

Each of these discoveries includes a person who did Master's in the
Electrical Engineering Department at UW - Madison.

Jack Kilby, of Texas Instruments who won a Nobel Prize for inventing
integrated circuits did his Masters here. John Bardeen, won a Nobel for
Physics twice (this is another very important piece of trivia, he is the one
and only to win in the same field.) once for the transistor and later for
the discovery of superconductivity.

Now you know why UW rocks!!

Rhythm and Booms

Well well well... I seem to be outdoing myself. A post being posted a day
after the last post.

To tell you what I did last nite... In Madison every year we have this
huge fireworks show called Rhythm and Booms. Its supposed to be
the biggest fireworks show in the whole of the Midwest and is a
pre-indepedence day extravaganza. Boy it was a whole lot of fun!!
Certainly a treat to watch... now here comes the interesting part
(sadly a part that I didnt know about last nite) The fireworks are in
sync with music that is being broadcast real time on an FM channel
(104.9). I thought that it is a pretty nifty idea. The show takes place
at Warner Park but we saw it from Memorial Union which is across
the lake from the park and there were literally thousands of people
at Memorial Union.

Walk from Monona Terrace

Seems like another lucky day for my blog. My definition for a blog as of now
seems to be :
"Something you remember exists at the end of 6 months and then
update and forget about for another 6 months."

Sorry all you hard-core bloggers, I wish things had been different for me.

Well my life right now is this rainy Saturday afternoon and I am writing
a post not because of the lack of better things to do, rather for the
excess of better things to do. Weather in Madison these days is
just too good... something like 30-35 degrees. A logical outcome of the
same is that people wear extremeley short clothes.

I dont know if it is just the psychology of desi guys to notice this, but
sure seems like most people are pretty chilled out about such things
around here. I saw the strangest thing last nite. I was on my way
back from Monona Terrace... that a really pretty sight in Madison
If you dont believe me check this:
(It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the guy who designed the
Guggenheim in New York who was a UW grad (isnt that obvious! ;-)))

Well anyways back to the story... so I was walking down State Street
and I notice two gals kissing. I hinted my friend Shamik to look at
the same and the next glance one of the gals behind the gals kissing,
was flashing. Now this must be the first time I saw someone doing that
and my instant reaction was to frown at the person doing that and
walk on a lil bit faster. Strange people these Americans... the gals
were prolly drunk. Dont know what to say about this.
